How to book your summer holiday to Cannes, France

france rental
by Brooklyn Museum

Article by Teddy Lupain

Cannes, famous for the Cannes Film Festival in May, actually has a huge amount to offer in the other months of the year too. Situated on France’s Cote d’Azur, many people’s enduring image of the city is of glamorous stars posing on red carpets and the sweeping sandy beach of the bay, yet this is France’s second most important city for both tourism and commerce after Paris.Being one of the most prestigious resorts on the Cote D’Azur, holiday villas and apartments in Cannes are guaranteed to provide you with sumptuous luxury worthy of the rich and famous, so whatever type of holiday accommodation in Cannes you decide to rent, you can be sure of the sort of quality that will make you feel like one of the many celebrities with whom you can rub shoulders with during the all-important Film Festival in Cannes. Holiday villas and apartments in Cote D’Azur are never far from the nearest stunning beach with a choice that includes those at Antibes, Nice and the Croisette, which is a mere stone’s throw from many of the beach front apartment rentals in Cannes – holiday accommodation in the French Riviera that is as suitable for a quietly romantic break for two as it is a fun-filled family vacation. But if you’re seeking a wider experience of the landscapes and cultures of the Alpes Maritimes, holiday apartments and villas in Cannes can make the ideal base from where you can explore the national park environments and spectacular landscapes of the French Alps – accommodation in Cannes being found in more rural situations where a villa in Provence style will give you a truly authentic taste of a traditional holiday rental in Cannes.Nice lies 30minutes by train from Cannes, and is the capital of the French Riviera. Nice, like Cannes, is a luxurious resort, where appearances are paramount and top class restaurants, boutiques and glamorous boulevards line beautiful, sandy beaches.Monaco is a further 20 minutes from Nice. A day trip to Monaco from a Cannes holiday rental villa is an ideal way to spend a day, where you can admire some of the most luxury yachts in the world, or test your luck at the famous Monte-Carlo Casino.During May, the Cannes Film Festival causes the self catering holiday apartments in Cannes to become even more highly valued by visitors, as the events and parties last long into the evening, so the flexibility and privacy provided by a private rental is priceless.Cannes is a play-ground for the rich and famous as well as discerning holiday makers from around the world, and the fine restaurants which have emerged in Cannes stay open all year round, and exquisite shopping is common place from a Cannes holiday apartment, mainly centred on the Rue d’Antibes and the glamorous Croisette.Unfortunately much of Cannes beach is privately owned, but there are two public stretches available, which do get relatively crowded during the summer months. If you are staying in Cannes accommodation for any length of time, it is certainly worth discovering the beaches of Plages du Midi just outside town towards the town of La Napoule. The old centre of town, Le Suquet, is, for me, the most interesting part of town, where small wooden fishing boats still ply their trade among the enormous luxury yachts. The walk to the 11th century tower at the top of Rue Saint Antoine is defiantly worth the climb, as the views and restaurants which line the top end of the street are spectacular.

Finding the best villas in France

france rental
by Brooklyn Museum

So, you’ve decided to spend your holiday in France – unsurprisingly, as France offers incredible culture, adventurous activities and gastronomic delights, whilst being more or less on Britain’s doorstep. You’ve also weighed up your options regarding accommodation, and you’ve chosen to stay in a French villa – again unsurprisingly; villas offer the home from home relaxation that just eludes a hotel stay, whilst allowing you to thoroughly experience the surrounding culture and local amenities of the area you’ve chosen.

But don’t just settle for the first villa you find – if you do your homework, you can find the perfect holiday villa for you and your family.

For starters, make the most of the technology we now have at our fingertips – once you’ve found a likely looking villa, don’t just stop at the photos – if you Google Map it you can get a more accurate idea about the surroundings and see exactly how close the local amenities are without even leaving your desk. You can even check out the size of the pool, or work out in minutes how long your walk to the beach will take!

If you have no grasp of French at all, it might be worth finding out in advance whether the owner speaks passable English. If not, you’ll still get by, but it’s worth being prepared for the eventuality that they might not – that means packing phrase books and utilising Google Translate on your laptop or phone; though make sure you’ve agreed an international internet price plan with your mobile service provider, as that method could get pricey.

]]>

You could also write a list of your priorities. If you choose a villa right by the sea, is it necessary to also get one with a pool? On the other hand, if you have children, would you feel happier if they played in the sea, or in a pool where you can keep a closer eye on them? Would you like to be close to restaurants and bars, or would you rather have a simple grocery shop nearby to buy food to cook at home? If you’re driving your own car or hiring whilst you’re out there, perhaps you’d rather go deeper into the countryside than you would if you’ll be relying on your feet or the local public transport to get you around. By narrowing down exactly what you need, and knowing what you can do without, you’ll get the holiday you want at the price you can afford.

Another way to save is to consider less traditional times to go away. If you’re not constrained to going away in the school holidays, try a holiday between April and June or September and October, when the weather in France is still generally better than it is in England, but also when villa rental rates are generally lower. If you can go with friends, you can get even better deals, as a slightly larger villa will be cheaper than getting separate hotel rooms – and whilst you’ll all have your own rooms, sharing the living space will mean a much closer, more together holiday – it could literally be the more the merrier. Also, before you book, check the holiday rental special offers from villa owners. There are always great deals available with discounts and promotions for early booking, late availability and off peak bookings. If you can leave your choice of villa until just before you travel, you can pick up a great deal. There are always rentals available at the last minute due to cancellations or new villas being made available.

Villas in France can be found online at http://www.frenchconnections.co.uk, where you can choose form 1000′s of self catering villas with pools, family villas, rural villas and exclsuive properties like cottages, farmhouses and more.

How to book your private holiday home in Vendee, France

Vendee is a department of central France on the West Coast’s Atlantic Bay of Biscay. It’s a beautiful rural department with a range of landscapes, from the rocky, beach covered coast to deep forests, from salt marshes to the rolling hills and lush valleys of the hinterland. There is a massive range of accommodation available here, including villas, gites, and holiday cottages for rent, so there are no shortage of holiday lettings for use as a base for a magnificently varied holiday, or as a base to walk, cycle and ride through the stunning countryside.

Within a convenient distance of a selection of blue flag beaches that stretch along the coast of the Pays de la Loire, holiday accommodation in Vendee will guarantee a destination that has something to appeal to the interests of people of all ages, not just those yearning for a therapeutic dose of sun, sea and sand! Surrounded by diverse and spectacular countryside, a holiday villa makes the ideal family base from where you can plan a vacation of outdoor recreation and relaxation that could range from walking, cycling, fishing or golf to exploring the many historical towns and villages that are scattered throughout the Pays de la Loire, holiday rentals that include anything from family-sized country farmhouses or villas, holiday gites and cottages that are perfect for two, or even the catering-free option of traditional bed and breakfast. In Vendee, holiday accommodation is rarely anything but charmingly rustic in nature and peacefully secluded in situation, particularly important requirements for anyone seeking a tranquil alternative to their usual hectic urban routine and something that can easily be achieved with any cottage or gite, holiday farmhouse or villa rental or a choice of typically country-house style bed and breakfast accommodation in Vendee.

]]>

The unspoilt beaches from the Bay of Bourgneuf to L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer are a massive attraction when looking for Vendee accommodation. With 160km of sandy beaches to choose from, there is something to suit everyone. However, the beaches at Les Sables-d’Olonne and St Jean de Monts are particularly nice, and have been awarded European blue flags.

Vendee is a favourite for walking, cycling and horse riding as the varied rural expanses of the French countryside are not only flat, but dotted with magnificent views, points of interest and villas. The variety of scenery just adds to the lure of walking, cycling and horse riding holidays.

Fishing is hugely popular. A villa or gite not only allows you the flexibility to enjoy superb deep sea fishing in the Atlantic, but also fish the rivers of the Vendee, Sevre Nantaise, the Lay and the Sevre Niortaise.

The lush greens of Saint Jean de Monts, Port Bourgenay and Olonne sur Mer give not only great sport, but fabulous views to be enjoyed from the privacy of a self catering cottage.

Boating is of course a favourite way to enjoy your day in Vendee. Sailing in yachts, catamarans and boats in the Atlantic is of particular note, but playing on the river in a canoe or small boat is also a fun way to spend a day from any villa.

Relaxing in Rural France – the Cottage Solution

france rental
by Brooklyn Museum

Who really wants to spend their holiday fighting for space on a crowded beach, or sweating in a surge of bodies on a city street, even if it is in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe?

Answer; plenty do! But not the astute ones, and not those for whom a holiday is seen as a chance to relax and get away from the pressures of urban or suburban life. If your idea of a good holiday means getting a real relaxing break in some place far from home, with local colour and a feeling of really being “somewhere else”, then hiring a cottage in the heart of rural France or even rural Spain or Italy can be a great solution.

In France, country cottages are called “gites”, and there is a wide range of properties available for hire all over France, for all tastes and all budgets. A good place to start looking is in the Directory of gites, cottages and rural b&bs in France run by Gitelink.

Here you will find a selection of privately-run holiday rentals ranging from magnificent manor historic houses to small village cottages. Many of the properties listed have British or English-speaking owners, which makes booking and other formalities much easier for those who do not speak French. The majority of French-run gites can be booked through a central booking organisation known as the Gites de France – but it is probably true to say that only a minority of the many British and Dutch who have bought up and renovated rural properties in France make use of this service.

In cost terms, gites can be an ideal solution for a family holiday, as it can cost far less to stay for a week in a gite than in a hotel: self-catering will reduce the cost even more, but for those who don’t want the hassle of cooking, this being France it is usually possible to find a good quality restaurant within easy access, and often within walking distance if the gite is in a village. Many gites, particularly those renovated by foreigners, come with private swimming pools; but a private pool is not always a necessity, especially if the gite is near the seaside or near a lake or river.

Besides, a pool is not the only attractive accessory that gite-owners can provide in order to offer the best possible service; others welcome guests with a complimentary bottle of wine or champagne, or just provide a well informed, free and friendly local information service – in English – to help you make the most of your holiday.

One way or another, renting a rural gite for a week or two can be the perfect way to ensure that your holiday in France is a relaxing experience, and a real break from the bustle and hustle of urban life. From Brittany to Provence , France really is Europe’s most varied country, with a wealth of hidden corners to discover.

Investing in Property in Cannes (france)

france rental
by Brooklyn Museum

The obvious answer to the above question is ‘pleasure’. Cannes is superb little town, blessed with beautiful beaches, stunning scenery, excellent restaurants, and wonderful weather. Add to this the small matter of an International Film Festival, outstanding shopping and a buzzing night-life and it is easy to see why so many tourists flock to Cannes each and every year.

Given its glamorous reputation you could be forgiven for thinking that property investment in Cannes was the preserve of those with more money than sense. While property prices in Cannes are high relative to the rest of France, they are in fact relatively low when compared to capital cities such as London, and if you do posses the capital to buy into Cannes real estate, you will discover that rather than being an expensive luxury your outlay does is in fact represent a shrewd investment.

The reason for property investment in Cannes being so lucrative is two-fold. Demand for properties in Cannes is extremely high, while supply is extremely limited with the result being that Cannes properties tend to greatly appreciate in value. Given that French planning restrictions, designed to prevent overdevelopment, are extremely stringent, this is a trend that is likely to continue in the foreseeable future.

The second reason for property investment in Cannes being so lucrative is that potential rental yields are extremely high. For the past three years, Cannes has had an average of 9.4 million visitors per year and given the fact that the town has so many annual events it is relatively protected from the kind of fluctuations that can negatively affect less diversified resorts. Furthermore, one in five visitors to Cannes are business people attending the many annual conferences and events. Like the tourists these people need accommodation, but tend to have far greater budgets at their disposal.

]]>

Cannes is also extremely well connected; it has its own airport (catering for private aircraft) at Mandelieu, and is only a 35 minute drive from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. As such Cannes is within 3 hours travel of most European capitals, including Berlin and London

Searching for property for sale in Cannes (France)

Before choosing which area you want to search for properties for sale in Cannes, you must first decide whether you want your new home to be exclusively for the use of your family and friends, or whether you plan to make use of your property’s potentially high rental yield.

If you are simply looking for private holiday apartments for sale in Cannes, then you would be advised to concentrate your search on the following areas, ‘La Californie’, ‘La Basse Californie’, ‘Super Cannes’ and ‘Le Cannet’. These are all very attractive areas within easy walking distance of the town centre and the beaches. Most residences in this area will have a balcony or terrace, and many will have access to a communal swimming pool.

If you are looking for a Cannes apartments for sale, with a view to letting it out on a seasonal basis, then you should concentrate your search on ‘Palm Beach’, ‘Le Suquet’, and ‘La Banane’. These areas are all located within a short walking distance of the ‘Palais de Festivals’ and so are particularly attractive to business clients who wish to rent luxury property in Cannes. Properties in this area tend to be smaller and more expensive, and there is less chance of finding accommodation with a balcony, while swimming pools are even scarcer.

If you are looking for a Cannes villa for sale you should concentrate your search on ‘La Californie’, ‘La Basse Califonie’, ‘Super Cannes’ and ‘Le Cannet’. These are all extremely attractive areas and if you are looking for a villa with a super sea view in Cannes, then these areas are your best bets. You should note however, that these are amongst the most expensive properties for sale in Cannes, and indeed the South of France. On the positive side, they also command extremely lucrative rental prices during the long summers.

Luxury Overseas Property Search specialist HOMEHUNTS excel at search for luxury international overseas properties for their clients.

The beaches around the area of Point du Hoc are pretty poignant – some the D-Day landings took place here and so many young men died here fighting for the liberation of Europe during the Allied invasion of June 1944. Many of the beaches in this region such as Calvados represent a pilgrimage for people who lost loved ones in the conflict with Nazi Germany.

Even parking meters can be found alongside the road. Note the yellow sign beside the road, he notes a parking restriction. Vehicles parked illegally may be drawn. It is also good for you to know while renting a car in Paris and in France, that Fueling in the highways can be more expensive than road side stations. You can refuel with a credit card or with cash.

So while traveling in Paris and in France with your rental car be careful, but do not forget to have fun!.

For a best possible deal for a holiday villa, travel outside the school holidays as villa rentals are generally lower then. Holidaying at the end of June or in the last week of September is good idea as the temperatures are slightly cooler at these times but still warm enough to take advantage of the pool.

While a French villa holiday is popular in the south of France, many beautiful villas are available in north, west and central France, where rental prices are lower. These areas of France also get sun out of season and record high temperature during summer.

Get a fantastic holiday bargain with special offers or last minute deals. Often great deals are available for early and off peak bookings and you can find beautiful villas at incredibly low prices.

Sometimes, last minute deals due to cancellations or a new villa being available are cheaper. Check for last minute deals just before you embark on a ferry.

Property in France

Being one of the closest countries to the UK, France has always dazed the British property investors in every sense of the term. Historically, culturally, and politically, France has always lured investors from all over the world with its prized natural possessions spread across the country.

The nation better known as the love capital of the world has several things in its favour, which make it the much-desired property investment destination in the world today. As they say, there’s something about Paris that keeps you hooked on the nation’s capital. Perhaps, there’s no better place to spend a romantic break than in the city of the lovers.

Property Market in France

After experiencing a recent lean patch, the property market in France is once again in favour with the British investor. As one of the most sought-after destination for commercial and industrial powerhouses, the country has always remained one of the best investments for business and commerical property.

Paris is also one of the hottest fashion destinations in the world and as such property in the capital city definitely commands a premium. Indeed, according to a recent survey, Paris has become out of bounds for the average property investor. But small investors need not worry as they can still find suitably priced properties throughout the picturesque French countryside and coastal towns.

Since the property market is going through a transition phase in France, an intelligent investor can strike an interesting deal even in some of the major towns and cities of the country. To give you a price indicator, you can grab apartments in Languedoc Roussillon starting from GBP 40K. But you’ll still need to spend in the upward range of 50K+ for a decent flat in the Var region of Provence . However, closer to Paris, you can lay your hands on comfy apartments in Ile De France for a little over 40K. Alternatively you could consider a mobile home in France starting from 13K already sited.

]]>

Coming back to the alternatives to Paris, prospective investors are well advised not to just hook on to the capital city, as there are lots of other cheaper and viable options available all around the countryside. The country cottages in the rural settings, or ski chalets in the mountains are an immediate turn-on for the tourists, and offer the best investment if you are looking for a steady regular rental income from your property investments in France.

Even other prominent areas, like the Cote d’Azur are getting increasingly out-of-bounds for the average property buyer. Similarly, the cities along the French Riviera, considered as the millionaire’s playground, are just too expensive for an average property investor. However, if you are an above-average investor, then these places should be an automatic choice for any kind of investment.

Overall, the natural choice of property investment in France include the resort properties all along the coast, the Alps, residential property, apartments, villas, and mansions in major cities, like Paris, Toulouse, Monte Carlo, and Nice – and business and commercial property in and around the capital city of Paris.

And here is a tip for any prospective property investor looking to buy a property in France. The majority of French nationals speak and understand only French. So, it’s an added advantage if you polish up on your French before investing in the country.

Why the British love buying property in France

Though France attracts investments from all across the world, it holds a special place of pride among the British property investor. Here are some of the reasons for this favourable trend -

– Both the country’s are founding members of EU and enjoy considerable mutual goodwill among the people.

– Regular flights from low cost airlines between the two countries makes the countries easily accessible.

– Who can overlook the undersea road tunnel the Channel Tunnel that runs between the two countries and the Eurostar high-speed rail system?

– France offers the closest and one of the globally recognised holiday destinations in the world for the British with coastal and mountainous resorts beckoning the property investor from all walks of life into France.

– French food and wine (not to mention Champagne!) is just too good to resist.

– French Leaseback Property option is a great incentive for the British investor to cash in on the property boom in the country.

– France offers better rates of returns on real estate property both for short-term and long-term investors. All it requires is the fulfilment of certain legalities and you are the proud owner of a French property.

– France is a fashion powerhouse and offers one of the best standards of living in the modern world.

– Regular tourist influx to boost rental income from the property.

Le Château de Septème

Le Château de Septème translates to “The Castle of Septème” and was originally the site of a Roman camp, which was built at the “Seventh Point”, which is where the name Septème originates. In all probability, the camp was established as a stop off point for Roman troops while travelling along the Roman road that ran from Vienna to Milan.

The castle was built in AD 900, but was restored in the 15th and 16th centuries. Situated at a top of a hill it overlooks local villages. Originally it was designed and built to protect the old village. The castle’s architecture is one that continues to astonish visitors due its beauty.

The ramparts, the battlements, and remains from the old city it used to protect have been classified as a historical monument of France.

The history of the castle is rich, and no visit to the region is complete without a visit to this historical beauty.

Futroscope Amusement Park

Futroscope is an amusement park which has the future as a central theme. IMAX theatres and robotic rides where you sit in the seat attached to a robot arm are just two of the attractions on offer at this exciting place.

Futroscope utilises IMAX technology to simulate flying over mountains, being catapulted into space, and being submerged in the ocean. One of the Futroscope attractions has been designed by legendary film maker, Luc Besson.

Futroscope makes a great day trip for families, especially as many of the attractions are interactive.

Abbey Church of Saint-Savin Sur Gartempe

The abbey Church of Saint-Savin Sur Gartempe is a Roman Esq. building which was started in the 11th century and completed in the 14th. What makes this abbey so remarkable is the condition of the 11th and 12th century murals contained within it. Some of the building was restored in the 19th century, and this wondrous piece of history has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
